Displaying the Coordinate System Icon

You can turn the coordinate system icon on or off and control where the icon displays. The coordinate system icon is also known as the coordinate symbol.

2D:  3D:

A plus sign (+) appears at the base of the icon when it is positioned at the origin of the current coordinate system.

World Coordinate System:  Custom Coordinate System:

The CSIcon command controls the display and the appearance of the coordinate system icon. The command displays a dialog box with options for modifying the style, the size, and the color of the coordinate system icon. You can specify different colors for the Model space and for the Paper space.

To control the display of the coordinate system icon:

  1. Type CSIcon.

    You can also click View > Display > CCS Icon, and select On and Origin.

  2. Specify an option:
    • All: By default, the CSIcon command affects only the current view. All applies changes to the coordinate system icon in all views. You can choose from No origin, Off, On, or Origin.
    • No origin: Displays the coordinate system icon at the lower left corner independent from the origin of the current coordinate system.
    • Off: Hides the coordinate system icon.
    • On: Displays the coordinate system icon.
    • Origin: Displays the coordinate system icon at the origin (0,0,0) of the current coordinate system. If the origin is outside of the display, the icon is positioned in the lower left corner.
    • Properties: Displays the UCS Icon Properties dialog box, which lets you modify the style, size, and color of the coordinate system icon. You can specify different colors for the Model space and for the Paper space.

To change the style of the coordinate system icon:

  1. Type CSIcon at the command prompt.
  2. Specify the Properties option.
  3. In the UCS Icon Properties dialog box, under UCS icon view, specify:
    • 2D. Uses a 2D representation for the icon coordinate system icon.

      A Broken pencil UCS icon replaces the coordinate system icon when entities cannot be drawn by mouse click input in the current view.

    • 3D. Uses a 3D representation for the icon coordinate system icon.
    • Line width. Specifies the line width in pixels.
  4. Click OK.

To change the size of the coordinate system icon:

  1. Type CSIcon at the command prompt.
  2. Specify the Properties option.
  3. In the UCS Icon Properties dialog box, under UCS icon size, specify the coordinate system icon size.

    The size is proportional with the Viewport or view tile size.

  4. Click OK.

To change the color of the coordinate system icon:

  1. Type CSIcon at the command prompt.
  2. Specify the Properties option.
  3. In the UCS Icon Properties dialog box, under UCS icon color, do the following:
    1. Enable Apply single color.
    2. In Model space. Specify the color of the coordinate system icon in the Model tab and in viewports on the Sheet tabs. All three axes of the coordinate system will have the same color.
    3. In Paper space. Specify the color of the coordinate system icon in the paper space of Sheet tabs. All three axes of the coordinate system will have the same color.
  4. Click OK.
