Importing SVG Files as Blocks

SVG files (Scalable Vector Graphics Format) store 2D graphics as XML-based vector images.

It is not possible to open directly an SVG file. You can import the geometry as Block and use it within your active drawing.

Use the ImportSVG command to insert an SVG file in the active drawing.

To import an SVG file as a Block:

  1. Type ImportSVG.

  2. In the dialog box, click Browse.

  3. In the file selection dialog box, select an SVG file, then click Open.

In the SVG Import dialog box, under Insert as Block:

    • Name. Displays the SVG file name.

    • File Path. Displays the complete path and name of the SVG file you selected.

  4. Under Position, for X, Y, and Z, specify coordinate values, or select Specify later to specify the insertion point on screen after the dialog box closes.

  5. Under Scale:

    • Click Specify later to define the Block size during insertion. Specify the Corner option, then define the opposite point of the rectangle where the Block is to fit.

      - or -

    • Type a scale factor. A scale factor of:

      • 1: Inserts the Block at its original size.

      • Less than 1: Reduces the size to the percentage of the original size specified by the factor.

      • Greater than 1: Increases the size.

  6. Under Rotation, for Angle, specify a value or select Specify later to set the rotation angle in the graphics area during insertion.

  7. Click OK.

The Block appears attached to the mouse cursor.

  8. Use the Ctrl key to toggle through the available insertion points.
