Importing a STEP File

STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product model data) is an ISO standard for saving and exchanging 3D model data between multiple CAD applications. In the CAD industry, STEP format is used for sharing 3D models between users and programs.

STEP files store the model data as plain text in ASCII format.

Use the ImportSTEP command to import STEP files and insert the contained geometry as ACIS solid objects into the drawing.

To import STEP files:

  1. Type ImportSTEP at the command prompt.

The dialog box displays with the file type set to .stp.
