Arranging Dimensions

Use the AM_DimArrange command to place dimensions at a suitable distance from a specified entity.

There are two methods to arrange dimensions:

  • Automatically. The command automatically arranges the specified dimensions and places them relatively to the outer contour of the specified entities, based on the distance snap settings specified using the AM_MechanicalSnap command.

  • Manually. The command automatically arranges the specified dimensions and lets you specify their position in the graphics area.

You can arrange:

  • Linear dimensions that are parallel to a specified base linear dimension.

  • Ordinate dimensions whose extension lines are parallel to a specified base dimension.

  • Angular dimensions that measure the same vertex as the specified base angular dimension.

To arrange dimensions automatically:

  1. Do one of the following:

    • On the ribbon, click Mechanical Annotate > Dimension Tools > Arrange.

    • On the menu, click Mechanical Annotate > Dimension Tools > Arrange.

    • Type AM_DimArrange.

  2. In the graphics area, specify all dimensions to arrange and the entities defining the contour. You can select a linear, ordinate, or angular dimension.

  3. Press Enter.

  4. Specify the Auto option and press Enter.

The dimensions are placed relatively to the specified outer contour.

To arrange dimensions manually:

  4. Specify the Manual option and press Enter.

The arranged dimensions appear attached to the cursor.

  5. Optionally, specify the Flip option to place dimensions on the opposite side.
